About Us

What is Youth Futures?

Youth Futures (YFI - formerly known as NYSA {Northern Youth Shelter Association}) is a non profit organisation that offers a number of services specifically aimed at young people. However, many of our programs are not age dependant

Accommodation

One of the core services we offer is crisis accommodation for young men who are homeless or at immediate risk of becoming homeless. This part of Youth Futures remains more-or-less unchanged (except for the name). Read more.

Employment

Another core program is our Employment Service. This service has many similarities with a Job Network, and basically acts as a job placement agency, but with some very important differences. If you are looking for work, read more. If you are an employer looking for workers, please read more via our Employer Portal

RTO

Since early 2010 Youth Futures has become an RTO (Registered Training Organisation). This means that we can deliver nationally accredited units and qualifications. Currently, we are mainly focused on Construction/Manufacturing and Agricultural skills, but we also offer some more generic training, such as First Aid and WHS. If that sounds interesting to you, please read more here. Employers with training needs please read more via the training section of our Employer Portal and/or contact us to discuss your needs.

Entally Estate

Also since 2010, Youth Futures has taken over the management of the Entally Estate vineyard. This allows us to provide 'real world' Agricultural sector training, especially focused around viticulture (Certificate II in Wine Industry Operations); but also other generic Rural/Agrifood skills (Certificate I in AgriFood Operations & Certificate II in Rural Operations). The Castle

The Castle also ties in with the training we offer as it is a two-prong program. Firstly it is a training program where participants can gain Construction and Manufacturing skills. Secondly it is a micro-housing development project, aiming to create and provide micro-dwellings for youth at risk of homelessness. For more information, have a look here.

Wheels4Work

Another project we have been previously been involved with is Wheels4Work (W4W). W4W provides a vehicle with trained mentors to assist learner drivers gain their provisional licence. W4W is an independent organisation, currently auspiced and run by Fusion Home Support out of the Door of Hope building. It was previously auspiced by Youth Futures, but we are no longer involved. Please see the Wheels 4 Work entry on the  Driver Mentor Tasmania website for contact details.
